Who is Clodia Metella?

Clodia Metella was born around 95 BCE. On account of her marriage to Quintus Caecilius Metellus Celer, Clodia is frequently referred to as Clodia Metelli in literature. During her lifetime Clodia was rumored to have had many affairs, the most renowned being with Catullus. Due to her relationship with Catullus and some clues in the texts, many believe she might be the lover, Lesbia, of Catullus' poems. Clodia is also written about by Cicero in both his letters and in his Pro Caelio. She is described as elegant, witty and a great lover of literature.
