Latin 302
1/29/13
The poet Gaius Valerius Catullus from Verona lived about 84-54 B.C. He grew up in wealthy family; he had one brother and his father was a friend of Julius Caesar. His 113 poems include a variety of meters, such as dactylic hexameter, hendecasyllabic, and sapphic strophe. Covering obscene or individualistic subjects, Catullus’ work influenced the poets Horace, Vergil, and Ovid.
