As Jones points out in the "Passer" article posted on UB Learns, the Oxford Latin Dictionary confidently identifies Lesbia's sparrow as a blue thrush.  Here is a photo of a blue rock thrush-- if this is the right bird, he is a mighty handsome little guy!  According to Wikipedia, it sings a clear, melodious call, and is the national bird of Malta.
